History

Metro Chicago is by every means something to everyone. It may be a regular club to you, but for a bride, it is a place of memories and happiness. Regardless of the meaning it holds, it has always been a place of great music. The venue which was formerly called Cabaret Metro is a concert venue. It has witnessed endless varieties of local, regional and national emerging bands as well as musicians.

The Metro had its first opening in 1982, but the building of the Chicago Metro music venue was built in 1927. It served initially as a Swedish Community Center.

Space is owned by Joe Shanahan who procured it as a result of his vast experience in the World of art, music and dance culture in New York City. Shanahan was fast to turn it into a place where music has lived for decades. The full capacity of the venue is divided into a main floor and balcony. Metro houses a smart bar and nightclub.

Smart Bar otherwise called Metro nightclub Chicago kick-started in July 1982 as a dance club, hosting a variety of music genres available at the time - folk, jazz, etc. It was housed on the fourth floor of the building, and now, the same space is used as an office for staff members. Among the first performers in the club were DJs Frankie Knuckles and Joe Smooth. Also, local bands including Naked Raygun, Big Black were the frontiers of local performances. Subsequently, bands and groups from across the World began to troop in. Many great musicians such as alt-rock pioneers Smashing Pumpkins, pop-punk royalty Alkaline Trio and Fall Out Boy and Chance the Rapper can trace their roots back to the Metro. It has been such a great platform for greatness.

The main focus of Metro Chicago calendar has always been beyond "business as usual". It maintains the balance between national and local entertainment. For this very reason, Metro Chicago spirals towards consistent growth while offering you an unforgettable experience.
