The indie folk-rock band The Decemberists have marked their return to the music scene with the release of "Burial Ground," their first new song in six years. This track, featuring vocals from James Mercer of The Shins, is a follow-up to their 2018 album "I’ll Be Your Girl." The song is a collaboration with co-producer Tucker Martine. Fans can experience the new sound of The Decemberists by listening to "Burial Ground" below.
Coinciding with their fresh musical release, The Decemberists have announced an extensive tour across North America. This grand tour kicks off on April 30 in Kingston, New York, and promises a season filled with engaging performances. Spanning through spring and summer, the tour is set to conclude on August 3 in Troutdale, Oregon.
The period since their last album hasn't been a quiet one for The Decemberists. Frontman Colin Meloy has been creatively active, diving into the world of literature. He authored several children's and young adult novels, with his notable work, the "Wildwood Chronicles" series, being adapted into a feature film. This film adaptation boasts a stellar cast, including Mahershela Ali, Carey Mulligan, Maya Erskine, Jermaine Clement, Tom Waits, and Angela Bassett.
As we welcome the band's new chapter, it's worth revisiting their past achievements. The Decemberists' album "Picaresque" has been ranked No. 34 on the list of “The 50 Best Indie Rock Albums of the Pacific Northwest.” This accolade is a testament to the enduring impact and creativity of The Decemberists, both in the indie music scene and beyond.
