Turku Cathedral Concerts 2024

In a generally low-rise city centre, Turku Cathedral is a striking, dominant presence. Externally, it has the appearance of many alterations across the centuries, whereas first impressions inside are of a harmonious, peaceful place. More detailed exploration will show all the ways it has changed over the years, but it is an interesting church to explore, with variously chapels and monuments revealing a long and complex history. It’s also worth spending a little time sitting and soaking up the tranquility amidst the busy city outside.

Turku Cathedral impressed me with its beautiful architecture and welcoming atmosphere. But what truly struck me was their dedication to families. I've never seen a church with a designated space for kids before! They even have a 'pilgrimage center' for a more reflective experience. Turku Cathedral caters to all ages, making it a wonderful place to explore Finnish history and culture. There's also a museum inside the church that tells the story of Turku Cathedral and its surroundings. The entrance fee is 2 euros, but it's free with the Finland Museum Card (like we had!).

The cathedral is an amazing piece of history. Not only is the building still in use and beautifully maintained, they have also taken care to preserve the evidence of its many incarnations. The models showing its transformation over the centuries was well worth the visit. But then there was more! Statues, metalwork in silver and pewter, and textiles dating back centuries. One of the most moving buildings I have had the pleasure of visiting. ♥️♥️♥️

This is the most sacred place in Turku. Built in 1300s and you can see the old constructions and renovations done over the years. Good place for history lovers. There are severel chappels and glorious artworks including glass paintings. One of the most impressive thing is the pipe organ which is played several times a day. There is an small museum inside which cost 2€ for an adult which mainly includes the history of the cathedral.

One of the best places to stay when the weather is bad. It has a nice toilet also.
