The Southern is my favorite venue in Charlottesville. The food passes the vibes. Food for all kinds of friends who want something green, something cheesy, something greasy or meaty. The music is always awesome. There's a lot of places to watch the music whether you're in the front of the stage or in the sides where its darker and out of the way. The Southern also has fantastic peanut butter cookies.

really great service, I loved that there was so many nonalcoholic options (the rootbeer was fire!) The homemade cookies and mac & cheese was amazing and the prices were reasonable. Really enjoyed watching the bands. Look forward to coming again.

Friendly helpful staff, good food, nice venue. It is handicapped accessible with ramps outside and a ramp inside by the ticket counter down to the main floor. Be aware, though, the sidewalks outside the venue are rough and sloped; you might need assistance. The cafe was accessible to my wheelchair, with the tables spaced well apart. Note, the food is made to order and may take a while to come out, in case you may need to eat quickly. I didn't check out the restroom. The music hall is on the same floor as the cafe, easily wheelchair accessible through a side door. I suggest arriving early if you want to get close to the stage, otherwise you'll be behind people. If you're ambulatory and can manage a couple stairs, inside the main door is a raised section with chairs and small tables, where you can rest and watch the stage. For sensory difficulties, the ambient noise was not a problem, I was at a black metal show and I've had worse problems with noise in some restaurants. I liked the cafe and the music hall and will definitely go back.

I experience good customer service during my visit to The Southern Café and Music Hall; a helpful-kind employee helps me navigate a menu for Vegan options. The Falafel meal is really good (the Black Olives are so yummy, the Falafel is really good without the hummus even, the establishment prepares really good tofu, the vegetables are crisp as well as fresh, and the bread [which is like a pita bread] tastes so good [especially warmer] with the hummus). I pick at the meal during an entertaining concert! Fun!

I went for a concert, so I didn't taste the food, bit is right downtown amongst a host of other venues where activities are going on. As for the venue itself, it's very intimate. Not a bad spot in the place.
