Amaro Freitas is a Brazilian jazz artist known for a “decolonized” take on Brazilian jazz. His album Y’Y (Sateré Mawé for “water/river”) draws on Northern Brazil, Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous rituals, and features Shabaka Hutchings, Brandee Younger, Jeff Parker and Hamid Drake.
