Soprano Barbara Hendricks was born in Stephens, Arkansas, and is renowned for her opera and concert performances. She studied at Juilliard and won numerous awards, including the Grand Prize at the Concours International de Paris. Known for humanitarian work, she founded the Barbara Hendricks Foundation for Peace and Reconciliation. Hendricks has performed at major venues like the Metropolitan Opera and married producer Martin Engström. She holds Swedish citizenship and performs jazz with collaborations including Katia & Marielle Labèque. Hendricks has over 80 recordings and was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
