Georges Bizet was a French composer of the Romantic era best remembered for his opera Carmen, which became one of the most popular and frequently performed works in the entire opera repertoire. Born in Paris in 1838, he demonstrated remarkable musical talent from a young age, entering the Paris Conservatoire before age ten and winning the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1857. His compositions spanned multiple genres, including his Symphony in C Major and operas like Les Pêcheurs de perles and La Jolie Fille de Perth. He died of a heart attack in 1875 at the age of 36, just months after the premiere of Carmen, unaware that it would achieve massive global success and be recognized as his indisputable masterpiece.
