Deserta is the shoegaze and synth-pop solo project of Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Doty. Formerly a mainstay of the post-rock outfit Saxon Shore and the post-punk duo Midnight Faces, Doty launched Deserta in 2017 as a solo endeavor written, recorded, and mixed in solitude. Known for a reverb-heavy, ethereal soundscape that balances delicate synth notes with layers of atmospheric guitars and hushed vocals, the project debuted with the 2020 album Black Aura My Sun via Felte Records. Doty followed up with the refined and more guitar-driven sophomore album, Every Moment, Everything You Need, in 2022.
