Cuban-born jazz drummer Francisco Mela, from Bayamo, blends Cuban traditions with jazz and contemporary styles. A Berklee student-turned-teacher, he toured with Jane Bunnett and played with Joe Lovano and Esperanza Spalding. Debut album Melao (2006).
