George Gershwin (1898, Brooklyn, New York) was an American composer and pianist blending jazz, popular, and classical music. With lyricist brother Ira, he created "Rhapsody in Blue," "An American in Paris," and "Porgy and Bess" ("Summertime"). His innovative style defined American music, earning a posthumous Pulitzer Prize.
