John Robert Richards is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer best known as the original lead vocalist and primary songwriter for the alternative rock band Dishwalla. With the band, he penned the 1996 hit single "Counting Blue Cars," which earned a Billboard Music Award and two ASCAP Awards. Since departing the group in 2007, Richards has pursued a solo career, releasing five solo albums including A Beautiful End (2009) and My Darkest Hour (2025), while also composing for television and film and producing for other artists.
