Mahlathini & The Mahotella Queens, formed in South Africa in 1964, defined mbaqanga with their harmony, energetic dances, and deep bass vocals. Popular in the '60s and '70s, they gained global fame after collaborations with Malcolm McLaren, Paul Simon, and Harry Belafonte. Despite the loss of key members, they continue to perform worldwide under Hilda Tloubatla.
