Born in Jackson, MS, blues guitarist Mel Brown blended soul, funk, and jazz. Best known for a decade-plus with Bobby “Blue” Bland, he cut cult classic Chicken Fat (1967), won a W.C. Handy Award for Neck Bones & Caviar (1999), and earned a nomination for Double Shot! (2000).
