Born in Ohio, conductor and pianist Robert Spano served as music director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra from 2001 to 2021, winning multiple Grammy Awards. Named Conductor of the Year in 2008 by Musical America, he has led major orchestras worldwide and premiered numerous contemporary works.
