Haitian band Tabou Combo, formed in Petion-Ville by the Chancy brothers, won Radio Haiti's jazz competition in 1968. Known for the hit "New York City," they topped the Paris charts in 1975. Competing with Ska-Shah, they became a live sensation, playing venues like Zenith Theatre Paris and Central Park. Influenced by funk and soul, they aimed for a Motown deal. Though unable to break into the Black US market, they inspired acts like Kassav' and Wilfrido Vargas.
