The Chords, formed in 1951 in Bronx, hit big with "Sh-Boom" in 1954, crossing R&B and pop charts. They inspired covers, changed names to Chordcats, then Sh-Booms, but later success eluded them. Known for blending Black R&B with mainstream music.
