Unsuk Chin, born in Seoul, is a pioneering South Korean composer known for her unique contemporary style. Mentored by György Ligeti, she won the Grawemeyer Award in 2004 for her Violin Concerto No. 1. Chin's works like "Acrostic Wordplay" have been performed worldwide. She collaborated with Kent Nagano and Ensemble Intercontemporain, and served as composer-in-residence for the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. She also directed major music series and remains a prominent figure in the contemporary music scene.
