Tenor saxophonist and composer Walt Weiskopf, born in Augusta, GA and raised in Syracuse, NY, joined the Buddy Rich Big Band in 1981 and the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra. His album Simplicity topped European jazz charts; wrote jazz improv books incl. Coltrane: A Player's Guide to His Harmony.
