Althea Rene, una flautista nacida en Detroit y exoficial de policía, es conocida por su jazz contemporáneo y funk lleno de alma. Con álbumes como "In the Flow" y sencillos como "Sunday Cruise" y "Free", alcanzó la cima de la lista de jazz suave de Billboard. Hija del Funk Brother Dezie McCullers, estudió en la Universidad de Howard y más tarde se presentó a nivel mundial en festivales como el North Sea Jazz Festival.
