Rock is one of the most popular musical genres of the modern era. It is also a broad all-encompassing genre with countless subgenres and fusion genres. Rock started out as rock and roll in the ‘40s and ‘50s, a genre that was derived from blues and R&B. Rock was also influenced by electric blues, jazz, country, and folk.
As for the music, it can be characterized as having strong beats and using instruments such as the electric guitar (main instrument), electric bass guitar, and drums. Rock artists commonly perform as a band, with each member using a particular instrument, including one or more vocalists.
Rock was pioneered by musical greats like Elvis Presley, who was dubbed the king of rock and roll, Jimmi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and more. The Beatles are arguably the best rock band of all time – they introduced the album era which made rock more album-oriented.
Rock is one of those genres that are commercially successful while having artistic depth and counterculture themes.
Get close to the stage but not too close – the sound quality is best when you stand a bit further away, even though you would want to be close to your favorite artist. If it is an outdoor concert, the lawn seats at the back are great for relaxing, although the sound could be muffled at that distance.
