UK New Wave band The Vapors, formed in the 70s in Surrey, soared with 1980 hit "Turning Japanese". Managed by Bruce Foxton & John Weller, they enjoyed global success before disbanding in 1982. Reunited in 2016.
Punk pioneer Billy Idol, known for his sneer and hits like “White Wedding” and “Rebel Yell,” merged '77 punk with dance. He sold 40M albums, won numerous awards, and became an MTV icon.
Martha Davis fronted The Motels, a band from Berkeley, formed 1971, renamed in LA, 1975. Known for hits "Only the Lonely" & "Suddenly Last Summer," the band earned two gold albums. After a 1987 split, Davis pursued solo projects and diverse musical collaborations. Reformed The Motels with some original members continue performing.
Urban Heat, formed in 2019, blends 80s dark styles with modern touches. Known for vibrant live shows and hits like “Have You Ever”. Winners of Austin’s "Best Band", featured at Cruel World and SXSW.
Echo & the Bunnymen, formed in Liverpool, fuse post-punk and psychedelia, noted for Ian McCulloch’s voice and Will Sergeant's guitar. Hits include "Lips Like Sugar" and "The Killing Moon." Known for albums like 'Ocean Rain.' Faced tragedies but remained iconic in the rock scene.
London-born Adam Ant, a pivotal new wave artist, transitioned from post-punk with Adam and the Ants to glam-infused pop, achieving chart-toppers like "Ant Music." Notable for theatrical styles and solo hits like "Goody Two Shoes," his later work influenced alt-rock. Collaborated extensively with Marco Pirroni.
Gary Numan, born in Hammersmith, London, is a pioneer of synth pop, leading Tubeway Army before going solo with hits like "Cars." Known for blending electronic rock with darkwave themes, he's significantly influenced goth and industrial music, achieving multiple chart-toppers and awards.
Formed in Colchester, England, Modern English, known for "I Melt With You," evolved from post-punk to New Wave under producer Hugh Jones. Winner of a Lifetime Achievement Award, the band was featured by DJ John Peel.
British new wave band ABC, led by Martin Fry, gained fame in the early '80s with hits like "Poison Arrow" and "Look of Love." Known for their synth-driven pop and theatrical style, they topped charts with their debut album and found success on MTV and in the US market.
