Althea Rene, a Detroit-born flutist and former police officer, is known for her soulful contemporary jazz and funk. With albums like "In the Flow" and singles "Sunday Cruise" and "Free," she topped the Billboard smooth jazz chart. Daughter of Funk Brother Dezie McCullers, she studied at Howard University and later performed globally at festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2018, she authored a guide for women in music.
