Guitarist Bill Frisell, born in Baltimore and raised in Denver, is renowned for his versatile, emotive sound across jazz, Americana, and pop genres. Known for his unique guitar tone, he has released over 85 albums and collaborated with artists like John Zorn, Elvis Costello, and Marianne Faithfull. Notable works include his 1985 debut "Rambler" and the acclaimed 1997 "Nashville." He has also composed soundtracks and won the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis. Frisell's contributions to music span numerous collaborations and tributes, making him a celebrated figure in the jazz world.
Born in Oakland, California, Ambrose Akinmusire is a jazz trumpeter known for his bold approach, blending post-bop, funk, and free jazz. He gained attention with 2008's Prelude to Cora and his acclaimed 2011 Blue Note debut, When the Heart Emerges Glistening. Collaborating with artists like Kendrick Lamar and Becca Stevens, Akinmusire won major competitions and worked with legends like Steve Coleman. His work includes Origami Harvest with Mivos Quartet and recent collaborations with guitarist Bill Frisell. Notable for exploring the Black experience in jazz, he has a master's from USC.
