The Astronauts were an American surf and rock and roll band formed in Boulder, Colorado. Along with the Trashmen, they were recognized as a premier landlocked surf group of the 1960s, achieving major regional popularity in the United States and immense commercial success in Japan, where they outsold the Beach Boys. The classic lineup featured Rich Fifield, Jon "Storm" Patterson, Bob Demmon, Dennis Lindsey, and Jim Gallagher, scoring their biggest U.S. hit in 1963 with the instrumental track "Baja."
