Soul II Soul, led by Jazzie B, emerged from London in the late '80s blending hip-hop, house, and R&B. Known for hits "Keep On Movin'" and "Back to Life," the group achieved Grammy wins, international acclaim, and U.K. chart success. Featuring rotating vocalists like Caron Wheeler, they released several successful albums and singles throughout the '90s. Despite disbanding by the decade's end, Jazzie B, awarded an OBE, continues to lead reunion performances.
Billy Ocean, born in Trinidad and Tobago, is known for his '80s hits like "Caribbean Queen" and "Get Outta My Dreams." Moving to England, he embraced soul and rock. His international success includes hits like "Love Really Hurts Without You" and "When the Going Gets Tough." Ocean took a hiatus before returning to music in 2007, and collaborated with artists like R. Kelly and Barry Eastmond. His hits remain popular, earning him lasting global fame.
Sister Sledge, from North Philadelphia, rose to fame with the disco anthem "We Are Family" (1979), working with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. Known for their versatile style, they excelled in pop-R&B, Philly soul, funk, and disco. Their notable hits include "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "Lost in Music." They topped the UK charts with "Frankie" (1985) and were Grammy-nominated. Sister Sledge collaborated with Narada Michael Walden and George Duke, remaining active across decades while occasionally recording new music.
Euro-disco group Boney M., created by Frank Farian, featured hits like "Daddy Cool" & "Rivers of Babylon." Known for U.K. chart-toppers and being a '70s European sensation, they collaborated with West Indian vocalists.
