British new wave band ABC, led by Martin Fry, gained fame in the early '80s with hits like "Poison Arrow" and "Look of Love." Known for their synth-driven pop and theatrical style, they topped charts with their debut album and found success on MTV and in the US market.
Go West is a British pop duo formed in 1982 by vocalist Peter Cox and guitarist/keyboards Richard Drummie. Their 1985 debut album spawned hits "We Close Our Eyes" and "Call Me" and won the 1986 BRIT for Best British Newcomer.
Johnny Hates Jazz is British duo Clark Datchler and Mike Nocito, known for late-1980s hits like Shattered Dreams (1987 worldwide Top 5) and Turn Back The Clock. Their 1988 debut album topped the UK chart, sold 4M+, triple-platinum.
Liverpool's The Christians emerged in 1985, blending soulful pop and sophisti-pop with socially conscious lyrics and harmonious vocals. Their debut album sold over a million copies, and "Colour" hit UK number one. Known for hits like "Forgotten Town," "Ideal World," "Harvest for the World," and "Words," they also contributed to charity singles.
Born in Birmingham, Toyah Willcox is a bold new wave/art-pop icon; formed band Toyah with Joel Bogen. Hits: “It’s a Mystery,” “I Want to Be Free”; Gold “Anthem.”
Toyah Willcox, born in Kings Heath, Birmingham, is an English singer-songwriter and actress. A punk and new wave icon, she is known for her distinctive style and powerful vocals. Her popular songs include "It's a Mystery," "Thunder in the Mountains," and "I Want to Be Free." She has released over 20 albums, including "Posh Pop," and collaborated with husband Robert Fripp. Willcox has received an honorary doctorate and a LIPA Companionship. She is also a celebrated stage and screen actress.
Glasgow duo Pat & Greg Kane formed Hue and Cry (1984): sleek pop/soul with jazz touches. Hits “Labour of Love,” “Looking for Linda,” “Violently”; 2M+ sold; Scottish Music Awards Outstanding Achievement.
