Their self-titled 1969 album won a Grammy for Album of the Year. Known for blending jazz, rock, and R&B, they experienced multiple lineup changes, including Canadian singer David Clayton-Thomas. The band's popularity waned following a controversial State Department tour, but their innovative sound remains influential.
