The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1945 in Atlanta, evolved from a youth ensemble to a globally acclaimed orchestra, recording over 100 albums and winning 27 Grammys. Conductor Nathalie Stutzman leads since 2022. Notable collaborations include Glenn Gould and Isaac Stern. The orchestra made history with a digital recording in 1978 and performed at the 1996 Olympics.
Born in Lvov, Poland, Emanuel Ax is a celebrated pianist known for his classical repertoire and collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma. He won the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in 1974 and the Avery Fisher Prize in 1979. Ax's recordings have earned him multiple Grammy Awards, and he frequently performs with renowned orchestras and at prestigious festivals like Ravinia and Tanglewood. He has recorded for the Sony Classical label and teaches at Juilliard.
Maurice Ravel's Boléro, a renowned orchestral ballet from France (1928), captivates with its hypnotic, repetitive melody and masterful orchestration. This iconic one-movement classical work, originally for dancer Ida Rubinstein, builds a relentless crescendo. Celebrated for its unique structure and enduring appeal, it remains a frequently performed and widely recognized composition.
French contralto and conductor Nathalie Stutzmann is renowned for her rich voice and dynamic baton work. She founded Orfeo 55, led major orchestras including Atlanta and Kristiansand, and earned Grammy and Diapason d'Or nods.
Ludwig van Beethoven, a German composer and pianist from Bonn, bridged the Classical and Romantic eras with his innovative, emotionally intense music. Renowned for works like the "Moonlight Sonata," Fifth Symphony, and Ninth Symphony, he revolutionized instrumental music, elevating it to high art. He continued composing despite profound deafness.
The Kansas City Symphony, founded in the 1980s, performs classical concerts and collaborates with opera and ballet. Under Michael Stern, they've released acclaimed audiophile albums, earning Grammy nods. They’re known for innovative tech uses and perform at the Kauffman Center.
