Candlemass, formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1984, pioneered epic doom metal. Known for thunderous riffs and operatic vocals, their debut "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" defined the genre. They are one of the "big four of doom metal." Popular songs include "Solitude" and "At the Gallows End." Their album "Candlemass" earned a Swedish Grammy, and "The Door to Doom" received a Grammy nomination, featuring Tony Iommi. Their EP "Black Star" was released in 2025.
