John Gorka, a New Jersey-born singer/songwriter, emerged in the '80s new folk scene with his expressive baritone. Known for albums like "I Know" and "Out of the Valley," he's acclaimed for wit and character depth. He won the 1984 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Award and collaborated with artists like Mary Chapin Carpenter and Kathy Mattea. His notable releases include "When She Kisses Me" and the album "Red Horse" with Eliza Gilkyson and Lucy Kaplansky. Gorka continues to perform and create, maintaining a strong presence in folk music.
Cliff Eberhardt, born into a musical family, honed his folk style in NYC's vibrant scene with peers like Suzanne Vega. Known for "My Father's Shoes," he recorded with Windham Hill and joined Red House Records after a meeting with Bob Feldman. Eberhardt collaborated with Richie Havens, sang for major ad campaigns, and overcame a serious accident to continue touring, sharing his compelling folk and blues music worldwide.
Lucy Kaplansky, born near the University of Chicago, is a folk singer known for crystalline harmonies. Initially a psychologist, she returned to music, collaborating with Shawn Colvin and others. Her popular albums include "The Tide" and "Flesh and Bone." Kaplansky has become a staple in the folk scene, performing with Richard Shindell and John Gorka.
