He transitioned to a solo career, moving to Los Angeles and founding Lazy Eye Records. Known for folk-pop tunes and acting, he gained popularity in the 2000s thanks to Zach Braff featuring his music in "Scrubs" and "Garden State." Hay toured extensively, collaborated with Ringo Starr, and was the subject of the 2015 documentary "Colin Hay: Waiting for My Real Life."
