Symphony No. 1 in D major is a prominent orchestral work by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed primarily between 1887 and 1888. Also known as Titan, the piece premiered in Budapest in 1889 as a five-movement symphonic poem before being extensively revised into its definitive four-movement structure for publication in 1899. It is widely recognized for its emotional depth, innovative orchestration, and incorporation of nature sounds and folk melodies.
Austrian conductor David Danzmayr, born in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, is celebrated for his clear, incisive, and expressive style. He is Music Director of the Oregon Symphony and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, and has led the Zagreb Philharmonic. Danzmayr has won prestigious awards, including the Bernhard Paumgartner Medal, and collaborated with artists like Yo-Yo Ma. He is known for inspiring performances across a broad repertoire.
