The Bar-Kays, formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in the mid-1960s, are funk and soul pioneers. Known for their infectious grooves and tight horn sections, they backed Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes, notably on the "Shaft" soundtrack. Their hits include "Soul Finger," "Shake Your Rump to the Funk," and "Freak Show on the Dance Floor." Inducted into the Rhythm & Blues and Memphis Music Halls of Fame, they boast multiple gold albums and continue to influence funk and R&B.
