Orlando, Florida’s Chuck Schuldiner founded death metal pioneers Death (formed as Mantas in 1984). Their landmark debut Scream Bloody Gore (1987) was followed by key albums like Human and Symbolic; he later led Control Denied. Died in 2001.

Upchuck is a band formed by lead guitarist Michael Durham with rhythm guitarist Alex “Hoff” Hoffman, bassist Armando Arrietta, drummer Chris Salado, and vocalist Kaila “KT” Thompson, whose songs address discrimination and trauma as a Black woman.
