Disco, originating in late 1960s US urban nightlife, particularly NYC and Philadelphia, is a dance music genre blending funk and soul. Characterized by four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, and lush instrumentation, it provided a vibrant space for Black, Latino, and LGBTQ+ communities. Iconic songs include "I Will Survive" and "Stayin' Alive". Its enduring influence shaped electronic dance music.
