Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, a Russian Romantic composer from Votkinsk, is celebrated for his emotional intensity and melodic beauty. He masterfully blended Russian folk influences with Western traditions. His iconic works include the ballets Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and The Sleeping Beauty, alongside the 1812 Overture and Piano Concerto No. 1. His compositions remain beloved globally.
St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1880, is the second oldest U.S. professional orchestra. Based at Powell Hall since 1968, it has 60 Grammy nominations and nine wins, including 2015 for John Adams: City Noir under David Robertson.
Violinist Randall Mitsuo Goosby won First Prize at the Sphinx Concerto Competition in 2010 at age 13. He has soloed with the New York Philharmonic and Cleveland Orchestra, and given recitals at the Kennedy Center and Wigmore Hall.
Erich Wolfgang Korngold, an Austrian-born child prodigy, was a revered composer known for his lush, late-Romantic style. He pioneered symphonic film scores in Hollywood, earning two Academy Awards for works like "The Adventures of Robin Hood." His notable compositions include the opera "Die tote Stadt" and a Violin Concerto, praised by Mahler and Strauss, showcasing his rich melodies and orchestrations.
