Founded in 1952, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra features 56 musicians performing classical masterworks, pops, and family concerts. Known for touring western Canada and the territories, it made history as the first Canadian orchestra to perform on a First Nations reserve and played Carnegie Hall in 2012.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), born in Salzburg, Austria, was a classical child prodigy. He composed over 600 masterpieces across genres like opera, symphony, and chamber music. Known for his elegant, balanced style, his famous works include "The Marriage of Figaro," "Don Giovanni," "The Magic Flute," and Symphony No. 40. He is considered one of Western music's greatest composers.
Edvard Grieg, born in Bergen, Norway, was a Romantic composer celebrated for his distinct Norwegian nationalist style. His lyrical melodies and rich harmonies are heard in iconic works like the "Peer Gynt" Suite and the Piano Concerto in A minor. Grieg masterfully blended folk influences, establishing himself as a pivotal figure in classical music.
