Augustin Hadelich is an American-German violinist born in Italy to German parents. Winner of the 2006 Indianapolis International Violin Competition, he won a 2016 Grammy for Dutilleux’s L’Arbre des songes and records for Warner Classics.
Based in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Orchestra (founded 1903 as the Minneapolis Symphony) performs about 175 concerts yearly, mostly at Orchestra Hall. Known by its current name since 1968, it has earned a Grammy Award and toured Cuba, South Africa, and Europe.
Edward Elgar's "Enigma Variations" is a renowned orchestral work composed in England (1898-1899). This classical masterpiece features fourteen variations, each a musical portrait of a friend or family member, famously including "Nimrod." Its enduring mystery involves an unplayed, overarching theme. The work established Elgar's international reputation as a leading composer.
Thomas Sondergard is a Danish conductor and percussionist who serves as the Music Director of the Minnesota Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Born in Holstebro, Denmark, he began his career as a percussionist with the Royal Danish Orchestra before transitioning to conducting, gaining widespread recognition for his versatile repertoire and collaborative approach.
