LineUp

NYC post-punk/no wave outliers (formed 1979): angular funk-punk + dub bass. Hit “Too Many Creeps” (club #57). Worked w/ James Chance; Topper Headon prod. EP.
ESG, a South Bronx band formed by the Scroggins sisters, is known for its lean, lively funk style, influencing post-punk, no wave, rap, and house music. Their popular songs include "UFO" and "Moody," and they opened for A Certain Ratio. With early records on labels like 99 and Factory, ESG became a DJ favorite. Although they faced sampling issues, their impact remains strong, inspiring acts like Luscious Jackson. ESG's music was celebrated with reissues and they continued performing and recording well into the 2010s.
