Void, formed in 1980 in Columbia, Maryland, fused hardcore punk and heavy metal and earned cult status in D.C. hardcore. First non-D.C. band on Dischord, they released the Condensed Flesh demo and appeared on Flex Your Head before splitting in 1983.

Exhorder

Formed in New Orleans in 1985, Exhorder are an influential thrash-and-groove metal band led by vocalist Kyle Thomas. Their debut Slaughter in the Vatican (1990) and follow-up The Law (1992) helped shape the “Louisiana sound.”

Herakleion

Herakleion, from New Orleans, fuses 1980s thrash and death metal influences like Voïvod and Morbid Angel into a unique sound. Produced by Pete deBoer, their analog album "Necroverse" captures a raw, retro vibe.
