Darkest Hour, from Washington, DC, blend punk/hardcore with melodic death metal. Pioneers of American metalcore, they’ve released 9 albums, toured globally, and featured in films and games. Members include Mike Schleibaum (guitar) and John Henry (vocals).
Formed in Alexandria, Virginia, Pig Destroyer is a pioneering grindcore band known for intense tracks like "Prowler in the Yard." Signed to Relapse, they evolved from noisy grindcore to experimenting with doom and sound collages. Collaborations include splits with bands like Orchid and Converge. Key members include Scott Hull and J.R. Hayes, with standout albums such as "Terrifyer" and "Head Cage," featuring their first bass player.
EXODUS, hailing from the Bay Area, are thrash metal icons known for their intense and versatile music. They've released albums like "Bonded By Blood," collaborated with Andy Sneap, and remain masters of the genre.
New York City's Demolition Hammer emerged in 1986, famous for their East Coast thrash metal sound. Known for "Tortured Existence" and "Epidemic of Violence," they signed with Century Media Records. They shifted to a death metal style with "Time Bomb" in 1994 but disbanded a year later. The band featured Steve Reynolds, James Reilly, Derek Sykes, and Vinny Daze, later joined by Alex Marquez.
Oakland-based Vastum, featuring members from Acephalix and Necrot, blend death and doom metal with erotic and psychoanalytic themes. Debut: "Carnal Law" (2011).
