Born in the Dominican Republic, Fernandito Villalona became prominent after a 1971 talent festival. Known for merengue and bolero, he sang with Los Hijos del Rey and later led his own orchestra. Despite personal struggles, he returned to prominence in the '90s with a hit cover of "Penelope."
