Dominican musician Fernandito Villalona, aka Mayimbe, rose to fame in 1971. Known for merengue and bolero, he joined Wilfrido Vargas, and later led his own band. After overcoming personal struggles, he made a comeback in the '90s with the hit cover "Penelope."
