Joshua Redman, born in Berkeley, California, is an acclaimed tenor saxophonist known for blending post-bop jazz with advanced harmonies and playful exploration. The son of saxophonist Dewey Redman, he gained fame after winning the 1991 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Saxophone Competition. His 1993 debut album earned a Grammy nomination, and his album Wish topped the Billboard Jazz chart. Famous for collaborations with artists like Brad Mehldau, Yo-Yo Ma, and the Bad Plus, Redman continues his genre-bending work with projects like his Elastic Band and classic jazz and quartet albums.
Philadelphia-born jazz drummer Johnathan Blake is known for his versatile post-bop style, collaborating with Mingus Big Band, Tom Harrell, and Questlove. His acclaimed albums, like "Homeward Bound" on Blue Note, showcase his dynamic drumming and compositional talent. John Patitucci, born in Brooklyn, is a renowned jazz bassist known for his work in various genres. A 4-time Grammy winner, he's collaborated with legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, and Alicia Keys. As a composer, he has sixteen solo albums and writes for chamber groups and orchestras. Notable projects include the John Patitucci Electric Guitar Quartet and collaborations with the Harlem String Quartet.
Acclaimed pianist Brad Mehldau, born in Jacksonville, excels in nuanced, sophisticated jazz, blending classical influences and rock covers. Notable for Art of the Trio series, collaborations with Joshua Redman, Renée Fleming, Grammy-winning albums like Finding Gabriel, and creative projects like Your Mother Should Know: Brad Mehldau Plays the Beatles.
