George Porter Jr., born in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a legendary bassist and singer, best known as a founding member of the seminal funk band The Meters. A progenitor of funk, his distinctive "deep-in-the-bottom groove" has influenced countless musicians. He received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award with The Meters. Porter has collaborated with diverse artists like Paul McCartney and Dr. John, and leads his band, The Runnin' Pardners.
