Formed in 1998, metal band High on Fire is known for dynamic, aggressive hard rock and heavy, volume-driven sound. The group earned a Grammy nod; bassist Jeff Matz studied Middle Eastern folk music and bağlama, and Coady Willis joined.
Napalm Death, formed in Meriden, England in 1981, pioneered grindcore, blending hardcore punk and death metal. Known for extreme speed, blast beats, guttural vocals, and sociopolitical lyrics, their influential albums include "Scum" and "Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism". Pig Destroyer is a grindcore band formed in Alexandria, Virginia in 1997. Known for noisy, complex songs and later experiments with sludge, noise, and electronics, they signed to Relapse in 2000 and released landmark album Prowler in the Yard (2001).
