Tel Aviv-born violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman (b. 1945) overcame polio to become a leading classical soloist. Juilliard-trained, he debuted at Carnegie Hall in 1963, won the Leventritt Competition, and received the Medal of Liberty in 1986.
