Based in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Orchestra (founded 1903 as the Minneapolis Symphony) performs about 175 concerts yearly, mostly at Orchestra Hall. Known by its current name since 1968, it has earned a Grammy Award and toured Cuba, South Africa, and Europe.
Ludwig van Beethoven, a German composer and pianist from Bonn, bridged the Classical and Romantic eras with his innovative, emotionally intense music. Renowned for works like the "Moonlight Sonata," Fifth Symphony, and Ninth Symphony, he revolutionized instrumental music, elevating it to high art. He continued composing despite profound deafness.
Felix Mendelssohn, a German Romantic composer born in Hamburg, was a child prodigy known for his lyrical melodies and elegant orchestration. He blended Classical forms with Romantic expression, creating popular works like the "Wedding March," Violin Concerto, and Italian Symphony. Mendelssohn also revived Bach's music and founded the Leipzig Conservatory.
Lee Mills is an American conductor and the Music Director of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra. Internationally recognized as a passionate, multifaceted conductor, he is a five-time recipient of the Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Award. He has worked with prestigious institutions including the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and is known for leading powerful, dynamic symphonic performances.
