The Jets, a band of 8 siblings from a Tongan family in Minneapolis, hit fame in 1986-89 with songs like "Crush on You." Known for dance-pop, they achieved gold albums before shifting to gospel in the '90s.
Candyman, born John B. Shaffer III in South Central L.A., is known for the playful pop-rap hit "Knockin' Boots." A former Ice-T Rhyme Syndicate affiliate, he charted Top Ten on the Hot 100. Collaborating with Johnny J, Candyman released "Ain't No Shame in My Game" in 1990 and worked with producers like DJ Quik and Prince Paul. Color Me Badd, formed in 1985 in Oklahoma City, delivered hits like "I Wanna Sex You Up," achieving two Grammy nods, multiple awards, and over 12 million records sold. The band's music featured in movies and TV shows like "New Jack City" and "Glee." Originally with four members, now Mark Calderon leads, touring with '90s icons like Salt N Pepa.
JJ Fad, a rap group from Rialto, CA, rose to fame with their Grammy-nominated hit "Supersonic" in 1988. The all-female trio, backed by DJ Train, were the first female rap group to go platinum. Their song was later sampled by Fergie for "Fergalicious," reigniting their popularity. Touring with original members and DJ Arabian Prince, they credit Eazy-E and N.W.A. for their success and were honored with a street name in Rialto.
Atlanta's Tag Team duo, known for the '90s hit "Whoomp! There It Is," sold over 4 million copies. Known for high-energy party rap, their work includes hits like "U Go From" and albums with massive singles.
