LineUp

The Icicle Works, a Liverpool group formed in 1980, were known for their big-sounding guitar rock. They scored a U.S. hit with "Whisper to a Scream." The band featured Ian McNabb, Chris Sharrock, and Chris Layhe. Their U.S. success came with their self-titled debut album. They had several albums but disbanded after "Permanent Damage" in 1990. McNabb later pursued a solo folk-rock career.
Big Country, formed by Stuart Adamson in 1981, is known for its Celtic rock style with hits like "In a Big Country" and "Wonderland." Their debut, *The Crossing,* went platinum in the UK and gold in the US. Despite changes in lineup, they continued releasing music into the next century. Collaborations include Ray Davies, and notable albums like *Steeltown* and *The Seer* kept them in the charts. Stuart Adamson, originally from England, battled personal issues and was found deceased in 2001.
A Flock of Seagulls, an electro-pop band from Liverpool, gained US fame with the 1982 hit "I Ran (So Far Away)." Known for futurist pop and Mike Score's unique hairstyle, they later reunited in 2003.
General Public, formed by English Beat's Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger, blended pop and Motown soul. Known for hits like "Tenderness" and "I'll Take You There," they collaborated with Mick Jones and Jerry Harrison. Despite a brief career, they left a mark with albums "All the Rage" and "Rub It Better."
Born near Liverpool, China Crisis, led by Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon, mixed pop with political themes and reggae. Known for hits like "Wishful Thinking" and collaborations with Steely Dan's Walter Becker, they achieved U.K. chart success and a U.S. Billboard entry.
The Vapors, a UK New Wave band from Surrey, formed in the late 70s. Discovered by The Jam's Bruce Foxton, they toured in 1979. Known for "Turning Japanese," which hit UK No. 3 and Billboard Top 40, from their debut "New Clear Days." Their second album "Magnets" included "Jimmie Jones." They disbanded in 1982, but reformed in 2016, still performing.
The Polecats, formed in 1977 in North London, are a notable rockabilly band known for hits like "Rockabilly Guy," "John, I'm Only Dancing," and "Make a Circuit With Me," featured in WALL E and Glory Daze. They're celebrated for vibrant gigs worldwide. Boz Boorer worked with Morrissey, while Tim Polecat formed 13 Cats. Phil Bloomberg plays with Marc Almond.
Josie Cotton, from Dallas, Texas, is known for her diverse musical styles—from pop and rockabilly to electronica and garage rock. Her 1980s hit "Johnny, Are You Queer?" and its inclusion in Valley Girl made her a notable figure. She's appeared in Jackass Number Two and collaborates with artists like Kevin Preston, Clem Burke, and Lee Rocker.
